Simple Changes To an EntryWay (Board and Batten)

Hey everyone!
Hoping your having a wonderful week and enjoying your summer.
Do you ever have a project or idea in your head and look forward to making it happen. With Pinterest and blogging it seems it can be never ending and so inspiring at the same time. I have wanted to give my entryway a little sprucing up but didn't want to spend a ton of money, after looking through many blogs I decided board and batten would be a good fit. Big bang for a small buck.

My son in law (whom I adore) volunteered to spend a Saturday helping make my vision a reality.

These are some before pics..not bad, but looking in from the living room kinda bored me.

After removing all the wall decor my son in law measured the length of the wall and determined how many battens we would use. Started at one end we measured, added liquid nails and used a nail gun to reinforce them. These are going nowhere!

My wall was just over 10ft so we used the same concept with the board (I used pine) across the battens.

A little caulking and painting and it was done!

Afters....

(I have more pics but they look stretched so I apologize for the quality. I will share more soon...)

I love how it turned out!
Thanks to my sweet SIL for all your help! You helped make my vision a reality! Love ya!

Do you love board and batten? Have you tried it in your home? I think my bathroom needs an update next...

Have a wonderful week!

To Paint or Not to Paint....The Decision!

Hello!
It's been awhile hasn't it? Life is just busy. We are in the last stage of our first year of homeschooling and will be so thrilled when our summer begins.
Do you remember the post about whether to paint my kitchen cabinets or leave the bottom a dark stain? Many of you weighed in with your opinion on this and believe it or not it was very close both ways. In the end, I decided that since I was loving the farmhouse look I would take the plunge and paint them! Yep, I went all white and couldn't be happier with the results. It has made such a difference in the look of this space and it feels so much brighter and larger.

Thank you all for leaving such kind comments and for all your suggestions. I am so thrilled with the outcome!

Have a blessed week!

A Chalkboard Wall...Pinterest Inspired

Don't you just love Pinterest!
I could spend so much time just looking at boards, pinning, and drooling over the most creative ideas.
One of those ideas is chalkboards or chalkboard walls. I believe Miss Mustard Seed and Furniture-olgy have some of the prettiest I have ever seen and after staring at them for awhile I decided to take the plunge and create my own. With a little help from hubby we accomplished just that and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.
Wanna see??
Ok..ok..here's the tutorial

Start with a blank wall

Tape off your design

Paint it with chalkboard paint and season with a piece of chalk to cure it

And my favorite part...decorate!!

Do you love chalkboard walls or chalkboards?
If I ever get tired of this look, I can just paint right over it..ahhh I love paint!!

Have a blessed week.
Happy Mothers Day to all you mom's out there..isn't it the best job in the world!
