Simple Changes To an EntryWay (Board and Batten)

Hey everyone!
Hoping your having a wonderful week and enjoying your summer.
Do you ever have a project or idea in your head and look forward to making it happen. With Pinterest and blogging it seems it can be never ending and so inspiring at the same time. I have wanted to give my entryway a little sprucing up but didn't want to spend a ton of money, after looking through many blogs I decided board and batten would be a good fit. Big bang for a small buck.

My son in law (whom I adore) volunteered to spend a Saturday helping make my vision a reality.

These are some before pics..not bad, but looking in from the living room kinda bored me.

After removing all the wall decor my son in law measured the length of the wall and determined how many battens we would use. Started at one end we measured, added liquid nails and used a nail gun to reinforce them. These are going nowhere!

My wall was just over 10ft so we used the same concept with the board (I used pine) across the battens.

A little caulking and painting and it was done!

Afters....

(I have more pics but they look stretched so I apologize for the quality. I will share more soon...)

I love how it turned out!
Thanks to my sweet SIL for all your help! You helped make my vision a reality! Love ya!

Do you love board and batten? Have you tried it in your home? I think my bathroom needs an update next...

Have a wonderful week!

To Paint or Not to Paint....The Decision!

Hello!
It's been awhile hasn't it? Life is just busy. We are in the last stage of our first year of homeschooling and will be so thrilled when our summer begins.
Do you remember the post about whether to paint my kitchen cabinets or leave the bottom a dark stain? Many of you weighed in with your opinion on this and believe it or not it was very close both ways. In the end, I decided that since I was loving the farmhouse look I would take the plunge and paint them! Yep, I went all white and couldn't be happier with the results. It has made such a difference in the look of this space and it feels so much brighter and larger.

Thank you all for leaving such kind comments and for all your suggestions. I am so thrilled with the outcome!

Have a blessed week!

A Chalkboard Wall...Pinterest Inspired

Don't you just love Pinterest!
I could spend so much time just looking at boards, pinning, and drooling over the most creative ideas.
One of those ideas is chalkboards or chalkboard walls. I believe Miss Mustard Seed and Furniture-olgy have some of the prettiest I have ever seen and after staring at them for awhile I decided to take the plunge and create my own. With a little help from hubby we accomplished just that and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.
Wanna see??
Ok..ok..here's the tutorial

Start with a blank wall

Tape off your design

Paint it with chalkboard paint and season with a piece of chalk to cure it

And my favorite part...decorate!!

Do you love chalkboard walls or chalkboards?
If I ever get tired of this look, I can just paint right over it..ahhh I love paint!!

Have a blessed week.

Targets Threshold Line

Hey ya'll, hope your having a beautiful week.

I would ask if you have seen the Target Threshold Collection but I figured you would have to be under a rock somewhere to not know about it. The colors are fabulous and their patterns are just so fun!
I had all white curtains hanging in my living room but was wanting something a little more vibrant, so when I spotted these at Target and found out I could get a longer length online I wasted no time putting in my order. I love the bold pattern and the change they made to this room.

On my last trip to Target I spotted these yellow striped pillows and lamp shade and couldn't stop thinking about how "happy" they would look in my living room. Yep, I brought them home too..

Gotta love Target!!

Do you frequent Target and love their Threshold Collection too?

Have a blessed week my friends!

He's Here!!

Praise the Lord!

On Saturday afternoon I became a "honey" for the first time. My daughter gave birth to a beautiful little boy. Carter made his entrance into this world at 3:34 pm,weighing in at 7lb and 10oz and measuring 21 in. long!
We are truly blessed!
Mom, dad and baby are all doing great and I couldn't be more proud!

Thank you Lord!

Have a beautiful week!

To Paint or Not to Paint

Hey friends!

Its been way to long since I stopped in to post anything. Life has a way of doing that to us I guess. We are eagerly awaiting the birth of our first grandchild any day now and would appreciate your prayers for an easy delivery. We are beyond excited, to say the least!

About a month ago I mentioned that I wanted to take the plunge and paint my cabinets white. Well, I did just that and WOW I love the difference it makes in my kitchen! It took me two days to get the uppers and the cabinets around the refrigerator. I used ASCP in Old White and yes, I waxed them all.

After finishing I decided to take a break for a few days and recover. So here is the dilemma...After living with them for about a month I can't decide if I should leave the bottoms "as is" or go ahead and paint them all white?? I am hoping you all can help me decide. I have asked family of course and its mostly split 50/50 so what do you think??

I do love the white! Its so much brighter and gives the kitchen more of a farmhouse feel.

Let me know what you think..

Typography..A Gift

Hello!
Am I the only person who just got on the Downton Abbey bandwagon? I can't believe I have been missing this show. It took about two episodes and I was hooked and now I am in the second season and can't wait to get my hands on the third. Good stuff!

I wanted to share a sweet gift my cousin brought me when they came to attend my daughters baby shower. She started a RAK (random act of kindness) at the first of the year and I was one of her recipients when they came to visit. I have a love for typography so this gift was so special to me. I am always humbled when I receive and unexpected gift from someone, but this brought tears to my eyes.

Such a sweet thing to do for me and I will cherish it always! I love ya girl!

The weather is so gorgeous here this week, spring is in the air!
Have a beautiful weekend!

Shower of Love

Hello friends.
Hope you enjoyed your weekend. We spent ours moving our daughter and her hubby to a new apartment before that baby arrives. We got them all settled in and set up (decorated). Now we wait!

I wanted to share some pictures from the shower I gave at our home a few weeks ago.
Wanted to do something that didn't involve a theme so I went with colors that made me happy.
Here's what I ended up with..

Before the food..

Napkins are from Target
I found the "C" stickers in the dollar bin and wrapped them with leftover scrapbook paper

Fresh flowers from Trader Joes

I made the cupcakes and found the picks at Hobby Lobby

My first attempt at the diaper cake..It was so fun!

My sweet girl (mommy to be)

and her hubby

We had grape salad, chicken salad sandwiches, macaroni salad, fresh strawberries, chips and spinach dip. Cupcakes and chocolate covered pretzel rods filled us up also.

She received so many cute things from friends and family and we enjoyed showering her with love.
We now look forward to his arrival in about 5 weeks! Our first grandbaby and this "Honey" can't wait!!

Have a blessed week my friends!!
