Adding Shelves

Hello my sweet friends! How are ya?
Did you have a wonderful weekend?  School starts for us tomorrow and I am not looking forward to getting back into a routine. Seems so strange with only one in school this year. My older son starts college on Wednesday...my how time flies.

I have been wanting to add some shelving in my dining room for awhile now but just haven't had the time to tear down all my accessories and move furniture..until this weekend.
I stayed in my pj's all day and played..

I previously had the large cubbies that I found at an estate sale on this wall

I like the cubbies but was wanting a change.

After moving some furniture around and playing with accessories this is what I came up with.
( Lots of pics ahead)

I used things I already had on hand. A friend gave me the old shelves, I bought one set of brackets for $6 and found another set at Goodwill for $3 ea. A total of $12 bucks for all. They sell them at Home Depot for $10 each so I think I got a bargain!!

French Flower Market window was found in Canton Tx.

Are you loving open shelving? Do you have any in your kitchen/dining room?
Love the way they look!

Have a wonderful (Back to School) Monday!

Decorating with Old Doors

I love the look of an old door.
The history, the chipping paint, the old rusty knobs. The stories that have been told behind these doors, the secrets within their walls. The amount of time they have been opened and closed and the many hands that have turned the knobs to welcome a friend or close someone out in silence. They have so much character and even in their vintage state can still be used for so many creative ideas.

This one was taken from an old family farmhouse. I love the old porcelain knob and the keyhole.

I gave it a good cleaning and moved her inside.
She now stands behind my new secretary piece in my bedroom.
(I will share more on the secretary desk in another post)

I love the charm old doors bring to a room. This one is quite large and I think a pretty chandelier would look great over this desk. What do you think??

Do you love old doors? Pinterest has so many ideas and creative uses for them. So many in fact that I have a whole board dedicated to them. Go check it out!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! The weather seems to be a little cooler in the mornings and I am so excited for Fall to get here.

Wasted Space

Hello my friends!
Hoping your all having a wonderful weekend and maybe getting some projects done around the house. Not many projects going on this weekend here but lots of time spent with good friends and family. Fun is the only thing on tap for our weekend!

I was sitting on my couch one day looking at my kitchen and wondering what changes I could make in there. I love the look of white cabinets and would love to paint them but that is just not an option right now. Then it came to me again ( I did this in my last house) why not remove the doors on the cabinets above the refrigerator? Do you have this space? I can never use it because I am vertically challenged (short) so it ends up being wasted. Why not decorate it!

Those two large doors were removed for a little more decor.

I would like to add a small light inside so it's not so dark up in there

Another little change for no money. Woohoo!

Do you have wasted space? Why not remove the doors and fill it with pretty decor.

Have a beautiful weekend my friends!

Pottery Barn Pillows from Curtains

Wow, the weeks pass so fast these days. I can't believe summer is almost over and we have to get back to the routine again. Doesn't seem like much of a summer when your busy driving up and down the roads so much. I had plans of getting so many projects done in my home and time has just flown by.

I was wanting to do a little updating in my bedroom with my bedding. I had a white comforter that was starting to look a little worn and decided to replace it with a white quilt. I have also had these Pottery Barn Curtains tucked away waiting for some use and decided to make some euro pillows.  I love the look of an all white bed but was wanting to add a little color.

Love that they resemble the look of a grain sack

Knocked the dust off and sewed them together to cover a euro pillow
I did not cut them so if I ever want to use them as curtains again I can just take them apart.

Love how fat and fluffy these turned out. I had three euro pillows and three curtains..Yay!

Added a red ticking dust ruffle for a little more red and that was it.
No money..new look!

Vintage pillow was found at LaurieAnna's Vintage Home in Canton Tx.

Do you have some curtains that would look better as pillows? Why not use them for a fun new look!
Thanks for coming by and stay cool out there..its too Hot here for doing anything!
